Florence, 1510. He died on 17 May, Sandro Botticelli.
Milan, 2010. The Poldi Pezzoli Museum presents the exhibition Botticelli in the collections of Lombardy.

At the fifth centenary of the death of the Florentine artist, the exhibition Botticelli in the collections of Lombardy, in the Museo Poldi Pezzoli program from 12 November 2010 to February 28, 2011, brings together for the first time the works of one of the greatest masters of the Renaissance Italian held in public collections in Milan and Lombardy.
"is a unique opportunity - says Annalisa Zanni, director of the museum - to see a side by side some of the masterpieces Botticelli's "missing" in some of the most important museums in Lombardy, and perhaps not known to the general public, because "buried" among other great works, as well as those preserved in Florence. "
The Museo Poldi Pezzoli, in fact, has three works Sandro Botticelli: two paintings of great quality, Our Lady of the book and the Lamentation over the Dead Christ, and beautiful embroidery depicting the Coronation of the Virgin, executed on the design of the artist for a cap to cope.
Alongside these works, the exhibition presents important loans from the Art Gallery of the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo - Portrait of Giuliano de 'Medici, the painting depicting the history of Virginia and the Redeemer Roman Blessing - and two drawings preserved at the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, belonging to the famous Code Resta, St. Thomas receiving the girdle from the Virgin
and Pallas Athena.
The exhibition, curated by Andrea Di Lorenzo and Annalisa Zanni, intends to enhance the presence in the collections of the Florentine and Lombard guide the visitor to discover its production through a complete representation of the techniques which showed the art of Botticelli and his workshop, the most important period of his activity, from the beginning of the eighties to the nineties
end of the fifteenth century.
Following the evolution of the style of the artist, the exhibition presents a reflection on the themes of beauty, devotion and penance, going from calm character and valuable book of Our Lady of the pathetic and dramatic tones and bright colors of Mourning. The exhibition is also an opportunity for a major recovery: in fact, the Madonna of the book, much suffering has been restored thanks to the generosity of Marta Marzotto, in memory of his daughter Anna. Botticelli
Lombard continues in the collections of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli exhibition dedicated to collecting, reflecting on the theme of the rediscovery of the Florentine artist in the nineteenth century in Milan and Lombardy.
The preparation of the exhibition has also led to important discoveries related to the table of Christ Blessing, which are presented to the public for the first time.
The painting, which originally was part of a diptych, has long been neglected by critics and considered by the shop, is now attributed to Botticelli by Everett Fahy, former director of the department of European paintings at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The pendant, depicting the Mater Dolorosa,
until the first decade of the twentieth century was kept in a private collection in St. Petersburg and is now considered lost, but its appearance is known to us thanks to the discovery of a photographic reproduction, never published or reported so far in the bibliography about the artist, which will virtually rebuild the diptych shows, after more than a century after her break-up.
The setting, designed by Luca Bertini and Alberto Rolla, is of great emotional impact, and works the island, encouraging a direct and personal encounter with the work, makes it possible to grasp the deeper meanings.
