Senise: Stories of reservoirs and landfills

Service by Maurizio Bolognetti. Senise, Fossi district: in the middle of the badlands is located one of two abandoned municipal landfills in the small town of Valle del Sinni. The MSW landfill in the district Fossi, abandoned in the mid-90s, is slowly crumbling in the direction of the downstream dam Montecotugno. It was predictable: The area of \u200b\u200bgullies is known to be a landslide risk area. A witness to the precarious condition of the road that leads to the district by district Fossi Palombara. And Palombara in the district, a few meters as the crow flies from the dam Montecotugno, is located the other municipal landfill, abandoned in 2004 and seized by the State Forestry Department in 2009. The landfill is located in the district Palombara a landslide risk area for some time and work is ongoing consolidation and reclamation of the site. Contrada Palombara could host a megadiscarica from 300,000 cubic meters of waste. In short, another landfill, this waste of time, a few meters from one of the largest reservoirs in Europe and in a landslide risk area. The purification plant of Senise, although it may seem incredible, it was built into the dam Montecotugno in a position close to the maximum share of the overrun.
